What to Wear to the Club....

Apparently, not this getup... So you know what that means? I'm not going. It's hottt in LA right now, everyone is frisky, it's warm and beautiful at night... probably hot and lonesome inside your place. Sooo, I'm often faced with the dilemma of wearing something comfortable to have a couple of cocktails in or getting "gussied up" to go talk to some lame stragglers at Playhouse (and the like) who lease some stupid black sports car; but, still live in an apartment (or with 5 roommates in Hollywood Hills) on the raunchy side of LA.

I'd rather wear my PRPS jeans, a Hanes wife beater, comfy Born wedges, various necklaces, a vintage belt from a Palm Springs thrift store and my beloved Free People bag (they give it to you when you buy stuff in the store!!) and just go to MILK for a Root Beer float...

American Apparel Flea Market Sale

Thankfully they had a ticket system this year and we pre-sold tickets ahead of time. Entry fee was $5.00 if you didn't pre-sale, $10.00 if you bought tickets, but either way you were given a $5.00 giftcard.

I spent about $60.00 and just on the two shirtdresses alone I made out well...

I was happy. And man are 90's babies strange as hell. Lots to look at in line. Just glad we weren't with the masses, cuz they were packed in line tight and apparently waited for 6+ hours, I could smell all the Bath, & Bodyworks nonsense from the Pre-sale line. Teeny bop hipsters. I felt slightly old; but, well put together.

John Fogerty and CCR at The Hollywood Bowl

So I didn't know what I was signing up for; but, I went to see John Fogerty yesterday. The tickets were $25.00 and the seats seemed decent, and there was a fireworks show. So I was like whatevs I'm down. Didn't feel like dealing with a huge nighttime drunken party, so this seemed to fit the bill.

I'm not big on pop rock, and my concert buddy begged to differ, that John Fogerty was NOT POP ROCK. Whatevs, let's agree to disagree and call it a night, open the wine...

Anyways, the old people at this concert were heeeelarious. I'd really like to know why old couples always get separated and the women ends up yelling name. This serioulsy happened around us no less than twice, in about 3 hours "BOB!, BOB!" jesus christ.

And I'm thinking John Fogerty can't hear shit. I can just imagine his wife yelling down the stairs at him at home.... to bring the Haagen Dazs up to bed with him. YA right, he never hears, poor boy always has to go back down and fetch it. He's still rockin though. Two extremely drunk chicks even rushed the stage, like he was all sexy, I almost fell on the floor laughing. I like vintage boys, not prehistoric.

Oh, the LA Philharmonic was there too, the conducter guy was funny, and had on patriotic socks AND shirt.

All in all, a good time. And thanks to me checking Facebook statuses during the concert I was able to see a friend who was also there, whom I never seem to catch up with :)

Bryant Terry

I had the pleasure of meeting Bryant Terry at the Hollywood Farmers Market yesterday. He conducted a sweet demo... Satueed Swiss Chard and golden raisins. Nice to meet someone talented, with a sunny disposition.

For the Swiss Chard

2 large bunches Rainbow Swiss chard, rinsed and drained

Coarse sea salt

1 tablespoon Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

2 Garlic Cloves, minced

2/3 cup Raisins

1/3 cup fresh orange juice

In a large pot over high heat, bring 3 quarts of water to a boil and add 1 tablespoon salt and dissolve. Add the chard and cook, uncovered, for 1 minute, until softened.

While blanching the chard, prepare a large bowl of ice water to cool the chard.

Remove the chard from the heat, drain, and plunge them into the bowl of cold water to stop cooking and set the color of the greens. Drain.

In a medium sauté pan add the olive oil and the garlic. Turn on the heat to medium-high, and sauté the garlic for 1 minute. Add the chard, raisins and a 1/2 teaspoon salt. Sauté for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add orange juice and cook for an additional 15 seconds. Do not overcook (chard should be bright green). Season with additional salt to taste if needed and set aside.

Cheap Vintage Clothing

Takes a bit of patience; however, I found 2 concert tees and a couple of other treausures (pictures to follow) all for $3.00 and under.

Where? The Studio Wardrobe Department, 1357 N. Highland Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(323) 467-9455

They're closing soon, so get over there and pick up amazing vintage for $3.oo and under! I could've have spent hours in there... But was a bit exhausted after Pilates class. (foundation gravity, kicks my a**) The store is also chock full of American Movies classic costume design hanging from the rafters... I don't know if it's for sale, and honestly I most likely should not be buying a dress that was worn in THE WIZ. Such as life...

I MISS LOS ANGELES

I've been in Atlanta for two weeks. It's been raining the WHOLE time. I'm done. I miss sitting in traffic on the 405, with my sunroof open and loud tunes in my ear! I want Thai food, I want OCEAN BREEZE. I want to have margs and enchiladas at El Cholo before I head to Staples Center to watch the Lakers win. I want to sip Kelp Lemonade from M Cafe de Chaya while I wander around Culver City and repeatedly almost get run over by SUVs shuttling starlets from Sony... I want to go to Yoga at Bryan Kest, then walk over to Ocean Ave. and watch the sun set. I want my magic wand. I want my own bed.

Fit for Life with the Los Angeles Lakers

Pau Gasol, Luke Walton, Sasha Vujacic and Nikki Shaw (nutritionist and wife of Brian Shaw) visited Mark Twain Elementary School in Lawndale on Monday to speak to the kids and faculty about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

But more importantly! Sasha Vujacic got to hula hoop with the kids and they're pictures to prove it.

The Forecast Calls for Rain

Which is totally fine with me, I packed my sandbag last night... Rain means I can engage in my three favorite indoor activities without the heavy weight of guilt for not playing in the sunshine.

1. Shopping! Great weekend for shopping the Barney's annual sale at Barker Hanger is this weekend, expect to see 80% of retail prices. Also the Vintage Fashion Expo is at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium this weekend.

2. Drinking! I made blood orange, meyer lemon and simple syrup margaritas the other night. Blood oranges and Meyer lemons aren't in season much longer, so get while the gettin is capable. Juice the lemons and oranges to taste and add simple syrup (homemade equal parts sugar + water) and tequila to taste.

3. Frolicking... Umm my most favorite. I know Valentine's Day is NEXT weekend, but break him off something slightly proper THIS weekend, maybe you'll have a better V-Day. I'm not into Victoria's Secret for everyday wear; but, it's perfect for entertainment. He's only going to see it once (maybe twice if you date long enough, u could wear it again in 6 months he won't remember) and I just can't move myself to spend hundreds on entertainment wear. Anyways... VS has some really cute new stuff just in time for Valentine's Day. I also don't mind their swim wear and they have lots of new styles in.

Tomorrow is Friday

And I'm a planner.... The Forecast calls for rain :)

I'm thinkin Friday night at Oyster House Saloon for dinner, funnily enough they do take reservations. Best to call ahead. You may still end up sitting waaay in the back at the outdoor; but, covered bar. They're lots of smokers out there, but the drinks are stiff and cheap. Don't ask for nothing too fancy tho. Anyways... the host will come and get you soon enough, and make sure you start with the GARLIC BREAD, it's truly amazing. I had + LOVED the seafood cioppino.

The rest of the weekend will consist of cupcakes and lingerie, not sure which order yet. I'm addicted to the Crumbs Fluffer Nutter. It's vanilla cake with a Peanut Butter Marshmallow Frosting.

I just received my Kiki de Montparnasse Dantes Caftan. I ordered it from ShopBop, was on sales from $695 to $485 (the boy won't scoff at the price after he sees me lounging around in it). The thing I adore about ShopBop is that there is no sales tax in CA (and I think everywhere except for WI) and free shipping. They carry a lot of labels and the sales tax/shipping perk really can help me save a bit.
