What to Do When You're Unemployed

IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

-
update your résumé the second you're laid off, fired, wtf. Your duties and accomplishments will be fresh in your mind.

- file for unemployment

- revamp your household budget, cut out unnecessary things (dining out, car washes, shopping for clothing)

- post your new résumé anywhere and everywhere you can think of

- take a chill pill!!! given the current state of the U.S. you're not alone, don't feel bad and realize that hundreds of people are applying for the same positions you will be

- consider yourself funemployed... get used to spending time at home, figure out what programs you like to watch on tv. start taking pleasure in the simple things in life (farmers markets, riding your bike, donation based yoga classes, reading blogs, spending time outside)

The Rainshine House

I'd love to fill this house with comfy non-modern furnishings... A mix of monochromatic Baroque, Shabby Chic and well maybe a lil modern Armani Casa.

  • 500-gallon rainwater harvest cisterns;
  • Butterfly roof designed to collect rainwater;
  • Locally-sourced, 100% recycled steel framing roof;
  • Water-based insulation materials;
  • Reclaimed heart-pine flooring;
  • Energy recovery ventilator (for tight homes);
  • Low solar heat gain coefficient windows;
  • Abundant interior natural light;
  • LED lighting system;
  • Geothermal heat pump;
  • 3.1 kW rooftop, photovoltaic system; and
  • Deciduous plantings to provide efficiency benefits.

Sienna Miller's London House

The bathroom is to die for. I can only imagine what's gone down in there though...

New London Style

I'm working on perfecting the art of dressing and decorating dramatically; but, only using muted tones... Black, gray, cream, beige, taupe, navy, white, and denim.

Scans from an awesome book. New London Style

Eileen Gray Furniture

Currently obsessed with Eileen Gray replica furniture. She was a furniture designer/architect when there were very few other women in the industry. The youngest of 5 children, she found herself amidst the artistic chaos she reportedly called home. Admirable in every way.

An early member of the modernist movement, her designs didn't become that popular until after her death. One of her most famous pieces is the Bibendum Chair.

Surely you'll recognize the pieces below, now you know (or maybe you already knew).

Her pieces capture the perfect balance of modern/comfy...

All White Interior Design...

I'm thinking of converting. All white interior. Something very natural and fresh about it, with just a few splashes of color or contrast. I love this Norwegian blog (and Norwegian interior design in general), all photos are from Moderncountry.

Pamela Skaist-Levy's Home

I love her whimsical home. Skaist-Levy and her husband are described " as very Beverly Hills, but they're also Rock n Roll, hippie deluxe bohemian." Her home is a Georgian in the heart of Beverly Hills built in 1939.

Pillow Talk

I like pillow talk, even if it's short/sweet/. For most people in similar life categories as mine, it's fleeting; but, hey I live in the moment, do the best I can, and F*** the rest.

Soo um. Jonathan Horowitz teamed up with Art Production Fund's WOW and created pillow cases of iconic couples... And man do I wonder what some of these lovely couples had to say.

My favorites: Marilyn + Jack, Sid + Nancy, Sigfried + Roy, Narcissus + Narcissus (mirrored)

Which couple is your fave?

People I Think Would Be Fun to Get Drunk With....

In the perfect little world that resides in my head...

I'd have the following people up to the beach house on a perfectly sunny + low tide day, we'd hang on the deck with ocean breeze gently spritzing us, make amazing Margaritas and a gourmet BBQ spread.

Lenny, Tom and Feist would alternate playing on the piano, the linen curtains blowing in the breeze kissing them gently as they sing.

Maya and I would makes funnies about everyone as I buzzed around the house like a typical hostess bee. I'd have to run upstairs every once in a while; because, Lapo would have a new ideas on how I should piece new clothing with my vintage stuff and of course Paula and I would be trading Southern cooking secrets. Although I'd be constantly advising her to use less butter (even though everything tastes better with butter)

So yea it's just barely March... I've still got tons of time to put this all together.
