Natural Cough Supressants

I know a lot of sick people right now... I like to call em "sickies". I hate taking medicine, try not to take anything unless the pain or discomfort is unbearable. One time I was prescribed Cough Syrup with Codeine, I took the prescribed amount before bed one evening and the next morning I nearly passed out at work, I barely remember driving home.

So I thought I'd share some natural cough suppressants with you all. FEEL BETTER!

Natural Cough Suppressants
  • Take one lemon and cut it into half. On the inner part, put some salt and black pepper powder. Suck on the lemon till you feel that the cough is ebbing away.
  • Take a piece of ginger and extract its juice. Add honey and a pinch of black pepper powder to it. Take 2-3 times in a day.
  • Take 1 tsp honey and add grape juice to it. Have this mixture for 4-5 days and you will see the cough going away.
  • Mix equal parts of honey and lemon juice. Take a tablespoonful of the mixture, every couple of hours.
  • Take a glass of warm water and add some apple cider vinegar and honey to it. Drink on a daily basis.
  • Mix ¼ tsp cayenne pepper, ½ tsp ginger, ¼ tsp cloves, 2 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp water and 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar. Take 3 tbsp of the mixture, whenever the cough strikes.
  • Boil a quart of water in a saucepan and add dried Elecampane root. Simmer for 20 minutes and add honey and a splash of lemon juice. Strain and drink.
  • Mix equal parts of black pepper (kali mirch), long pepper (pippali) and dry ginger (sonth). Add honey and have 2-3 times a day.
  • Mix 1 tsp onion juice with 1 tsp honey. Set aside the mixture for 4-5 hours. Thereafter, consume twice daily.
  • Soak almonds overnight. Peel them in the morning, grind and add butter and sugar. Take the mixture in morning and evening.

At Home Beauty Treatments

I've always been a fan of at home beauty treatments. Partly because; I enjoy being at home, cooking, arranging flowers, listening to music, playin around on the net. In any case, I figured now, with the recession and all was a good time as any to share my at home beauty treatments!

How you like me now? Watch this space, I got a lot of tips. :)

First things first. Kitchen cupboard facial masks.

Apply masks to cleansed skin, remove immediately if you feel any discomfort, rinse with warm water then moisturize.

Facial Exfoliator: 2 tsp oatmeal, 2 tsp heavy cream
Apply in a circular motion to the face and neck, then rinse.

Cleansing Mask: 2 tsp chickpea flour, 1 tsp water, 1 tsp honey
Mask should be thick and sticky apply to problem areas, leave on for 7 mintues then rinse.

Oatmeal Scrub: 2 tbs oatmeal, 1 tbs almond oil
Suitable for the entire body, apply in a circular motion then rinse

Acne Mask: 1 heaping tsp chickpea flour, 1 tsp heavy cream, 2 tsp water, pinch of salt
Mask should be thick and creamy, apply to skin and leave on for 10 mintues before rinsing off

Lemon Mask (irregular pigmentation, acne + excess hair): 1 tsp fresh lemon juice, 1 tsp honey

Eczema Mask: 2 tsp chickpea flour, 2 tsp almond oil, 1/4 tsp salt
Mask should be smooth/liquid consistency apply to affected areas for 10 minutes, then rinse

Nose Mask: 1/2 tsp chickpea flour, 1/2 tsp honey, a pinch of salt, few drops of lemon juice
Cover nose/cheeks with mask leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse.

FYI:
Lemon juice is a great cleanser with antibacterial properties. It's also a useful natural bleaching agent and helps to restore skin's acid balance.

Salt is a powerful cleanser and neutralizer of bacteria, as well as a natural exfoliator.

If you're alleric to pollen/grasses, don't use honey in your masks.
